Since 1981, the Center of Labor Studies and Worker’s Support – CETRA, has fought for a sustainable future in Ceará, in the northeast of Brazil, and the rights and dignity of its traditional communities. At first, CETRA’s started offering legal advice to smallholder farmers in their struggle to have a land of their own. In the 1990s, the mission evolved, it was time to work properly on that land, bringing to it technical solutions and improvements. Through the endurance and solidarity of its communities, the goal was now to transform the countryside into a space of well-being and sustainability.

In recent years, CETRA has seen this contribution within the broad perspective of a globally sustainable future, investing in green and social technologies, contributing to projects in the fields of renewable energy, water resources, agro-forestry and biodiversity. The set of its challenges are, amongst many others: Sustainable living with the Semiarid, Agro-ecology, Organic Products, Solidary Economy Network, Fair Trade, Life Improvement and Cultural Rights for traditional people, youth and women.

All those goals are within the collective fight for social justice, inclusive public policies and democratization and diversity. As thus, CETRA has a long history of working along with Government Agencies and Technological Institutes, and welcomes now warmly any partnership with institutions or groups outside Brazil, in hope for solidarity, sustainability and social justice!
